ADULTS

At French & Co, we have many adult students. Some are looking to advance their French language abilities while others come to learn the language for the first time.

Our lessons are catered to your individual needs, goals and learning desires. During our first meeting, we will work together to  discuss your motivation to learn French and  create a course plan matching your needs.

The types of lessons we offer include:

French for Professionals

Do you work in a sector where you frequently interact with French-speaking colleagues or clients? Our lessons for business professionals allow you to advance aspects of the language with a focus on vocabulary, pronunciation and grammar. Course material is designed to prepare you  to communicate professionally in a work environment both orally and in writing.

French Refresh

Are proficient in French but need a brush-up when it comes to communicate/formulate complex sentences? In our French Refresh classes, w work specifically on your grammar in order to improve your syntax and structure.

Everyday French

Are you looking to brush up on your French, or to learn the basics of the French language? Join our Everyday French lessons where you will learn French in connection with daily life activities and situations. Our lessons focus  on vocabulary, pronunciation and grammar applicable to a range of everyday topics.  We design our course material so that you are prepared to  communicate comfortably in French in day-to-day scenarios such as going to the supermarket, chatting with friends, speaking about your hobbies, and expressing your opinion on current events.

CHILDREN

Our goal is to make French fun, so that learners – as young as 5 – can have strong, positive experiences with the French language.

Learning a new language is beneficial for children’s social and cognitive development which is why at French & Co., our children’s lessons are specifically tailored on learning French in fun & playful ways.

Tutoring for Beginners

Is your child taking French at school? We provide support so they have more confidence in class, assisting with their grammar, conversational skills, and range of vocabulary.

Early Learning Activities

Would you like your child to discover French in a friendly and fun setting? Our interactive activities will show your child how exciting learning a new language can be.

Immersion Preparation and Support

Will your child soon be starting a French immersion program soon?

 

Our lessons can support your child, so that they gain familiarity with French and are  ready for their new immersion environment. We’ll strengthen the French language foundations they need to excel in an immersion setting.

 

EXAMS

French & Co offers exams preparation classes for all levels.

We can provide you the support you need for internationnaly recognized exams such as:

Test d’Évaluation de Français pour le Canada (TEF Canada)

The TEF is a test of general French which assesses the level of proficiency in French of francophones and non-francophones alike. The TEF Canada is recognised as official proof of language proficiency by Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) as well as the Ministère de l’Immigration et des Communautés Culturelles du Québec (MICC) for permanent residency applications, certificat de sélection du Québec applications and Canadian citizenship applications.

 

This certification is often required when applying for jobs in the government/public sector in Canada.

Diplôme d’Études en Langue Française (DELF) & Diplôme Approfondi de Langue Française (DALF)

The DELF & DALF are both official diplomas awarded by the French Ministry of Education to certify the French language competency of candidates from outside France.
This diploma is well known all over the world and often asked by universities or colleges.

INFORMATION ABOUT THE DIFFERENT LEVELS

The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) is the result of a European study and promotes a communicative learning environment in which learners direct their own learning through activities based in real-world, everyday contexts. This learning includes oral (expression and comprehension) and written (expression and comprehension) components.

 

The following table outlines the six CEFR reference levels:

A1 – Basic Introductory

Capable of understanding and using simple expressions in response to concrete situations in daily life.

A2 – Basic Intermediate level:

Capable of understanding simple expressions pertaining to personal and family life, work, and shopping. Users at this level can also give simple descriptions of their training and discuss their day-to-day lives.

B1 – Independent Threshold level:

Capable of understanding key points when addressed in clear, standard language about such familiar subjects as work and hobbies. Users at this level are also capable of expressing themselves about familiar subjects and fields of interest.

B2 – Independent Advanced

Capable of understanding key points in complex texts or technical discussion within the user’s field of expertise. Users at this level are capable of expressing themselves in a clear and thorough fashion on a wide range of subjects.

C1 – Experienced Autonomous level

Capable of understanding long texts and implicit information. Users at this level are capable of expressing themselves in an effective, flexible, and well-structured manner on complex subjects.

C2 – Experienced Master level

Capable of understanding practically all information, without significant effort, in both oral and written circumstances. Users at this level are capable of expressing themselves spontaneously, precisely, and with a great deal of fluency on complex subjects.
